Bruce advances with 47-13 win over Hollandale-Simmons

The Bruce Trojans will travel to East Webster next week in the second round of the playoffs after a 47-13 win over Hollandale-Simmons Friday night at Trojan Field.

The top-seeded Trojans led 12-0 early on a 17-yard scoring run from Darrian Sullivan and a 3-yard touchdown pass from Davis Brown to Rashad Turner.

Simmons cut the deficit to 12-7 after recovering a fumble near the Bruce 20 in the second quarter.

Bruce rattled off 37 unanswered points after that to blow the game open.

Donta Armstrong started the run with a long return of a Simmons’ fumble, forced by Javon Petty, and then an 8-yard TD run a few plays later.

Brown and Turner would connect on a 7-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter after a 50-yard run by Zay Armstrong.

The Trojans led 27-7 at the half.

Shaq Bush returned a Simmons punt 72 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

After a Russ Owen interception, Brown hit Armstrong with a 55-yard touchdown pass for a 40-7 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Zack Cruthirds scored the final Bruce touchdown on a 43-yard run.
