Donna Elaine Tharpe, 46, of Bruce, died December 30, 2012 at her home. She was born February 17, 1966, the daughter of Jay W. Jenkins Jr. and Helen Louise Horn Jenins, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
Daniel Aven “Dan”?Hendrix, 58, of Vardaman, went to his heavenly home on December 29, 2012. He was born April 16, 1954 in Calhoun City, the son of Charles Paul and Agnes Gulledge Hendrix. He was a member of Reedy’s Chapel Baptist Church in Calhoun City. He was a 31 year National Guard Veteran, an avid outdoorsman, deer hunter, loved Ole Miss football, and serving his country.
Dr. Joe Wayne Walker, 75, Water Valley, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Born in Detroit, MI to the late James Woodrow and Mary McCaslin Walker on December 12, 1937. He graduated Peabody High School in Trenton, TN, attended the University of TN and the University of TN College of Medicine. He completed his internship at Richland County Hospital in Columbia, SC. While serving as chief resident of internal medicine at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN, he began his involvement in Yalobusha County as an ER physician in Yalobusha General Hospital. In 1971 he moved his family to Water Valley and started his practice.
Ellen Marie Nelms, 77, of Calhoun City, died December 29, 2012 at Calhoun Health Services nursing home in Calhoun City. She was born July 30, 1935 in Calhoun County, the daughter of Hiram Nelms and Keeby Hodge Nelms. She was a retired sewing machine operator for Kellwood.
Sammye Carter Baker, 83, retired receptionist and bookkeeper at Graceland Care Center, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. There will be a funeral service Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Dabbs, Rev. Annette Ford and Mr. Matthew Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, December 31, 2012 from 3:30-6 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home.
