Oliver Henry Poe, 84, of Big Creek, died October 29, 2012 at his home. He was born November 2, 1927 in Big Creek, the son of Henry and Cora Johnson Poe. He was a farmer and member of Big Creek Baptist Church, and had been a Mason for over 50 years.

Calhoun County’s unemployment rate increased slightly in September to 9.1%, according to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
Harold Lee Herl, Sr., 77, Hernando, died October 29, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital- Desoto Center-Southaven. He was born; March 11, 1935 in Ashtabula, Oh., the son of Harold and Freda Brydle Herl. He was a graduate of Ashtabula H.S., Ashtabula, and deacon of Jackson Chapel Church in Hernando. He was retired from the U.S. Navy of 20 years where he earned his Bush Pilot Wings. In civil service he taught jet engine repair in Saudia Arabia for two years. He was a member of V.F.W., was a Mason, Scottish Rite Shriner and Yorkrite Shriner.
Mildred Morgan Pearson, last daughter born to Martha Eliza Saxon and Walter L. Morgan of Calhoun County, September 30, 1911, died October 27, 2012, at age 101 years, 27 days. She had two siblings, Anna Morgan and Movelle Morgan Mayfield. All had preceded her in death. She had two nephews, Temple and Carl Mayfield and two great-nieces. Only Carl and the two great–nieces survive.
