Judy Brown of Bruce was “somehow elected” to make the Thanksgiving dressing for their family dinner when her mother was no longer able to make it due to her health. She uses the recipes of her mother, Josie Murphree, to make dressing, and sweet potato casserole. Judy learned to cook from her mother, “a good, country cook,” and she makes things her mother always did, like meatloaf, but sometimes the kids say it’s “not as good as Mamaw’s”.

Jimmy D. McPhail, 72, of Calhoun City, died November 19, 2010 at his home. He was born August 16, 1938 in Calhoun County, the son of J.D. and Ruby Mays McPhail. He was a truck driver for Hardin Trucking 25 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and loved his family, work, and anything outdoors.
