Familiar Favorites, New Events Highlight 19th Sawmill Festival

The 19th edition of the Bruce Sawmill Festival will begin Friday, July 9 with all the familiar favorites –?golf tournament, arts and crafts, Fine Arts Club ice cream, lots of music, games and rides for kids. This year’s festival will also see the return of some past favorites, such as the Rotary Fish Fry on Friday night and a 5K run.

Billy Barton Jr.
Billy Ralph Barton Jr., 49, passed away Wed. June 23, 2010 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sat., June 26, 2010 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with interment in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl. Mr. Barton was born in Memphis and lived most of his life in the Brandon area, where he was a member of Crossview Baptist Church. He was an employee of the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 11 years and he also loved motorcycles. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his daughter making sure he attended all of her functions.

Bruce hosted a seven-on-seven football tournament for quarterbacks and wide receivers Monday with six schools competing – Bruce, Calhoun City, Vardaman, Grenada, Ackerman, and Eupora.
