Syble Morgan

Syble Mae “Lewis” Morgan, 85, of Eupora, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 at Dugan Memorial Nursing Home in West Point. She was born May 3, 1924 in Webster County, the daughter of Carl and Mary Belle “Little” Lewis. She was a homemaker.

Jane Bryant

Jane Reed Massey Bryant, of Cordova, died peacefully at her home Saturday, December 26, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Wade and Erlene Massey of Bruce, where she grew up. Jane was married to the late Jimmy Bryant and together they moved to Memphis in 1958, and reared three children; Kerrie Bryant Burton, Sandra Bryant Connell and Phil Bryant.

Judy Parker

Judy Pearl Parker, Bruce, died Monday,?Dec. 21, 2009 at BMH-NM in Oxford. She was born June 6, 1954 to Willie and Elsie Cook Parker in Chickasaw County. She was a member of West Grove M.B. Church. She loved to cook, watch television, listen to gospel music and talk, and she was an avid sports fan. She was full of life and never met a stranger.

Hilda Barker

Hilda Ann Barker, 72, of Eupora, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009 at North MS Longtime Care Center in Eupora. She was born February 10, 1937 in Calhoun County, the daughter of Otho and Avie Cantrell Hill. She was a homemaker.

Ruth Easley

Miss Ruth Easley, 87, of Pittsboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 at Calhoun Health Services Nursing Home in Calhoun City. She was born November 7, 1922 in Derma, the daughter of  Edgar Smith and Dora Parker Easley. She retired from Home Insurance Company, Jackson; was a member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, D.A.R., and Homemakers Club. She was a former nursing home volunteer. She was a devoted family member who will be missed by her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.

Man Arrested After Crashing Through Building

A Pittsboro man is in the Calhoun County Jail facing numerous charges after crashing his vehicle through the wall of a building on the Pittsboro Square early Monday morning.

Dear Santa, I Would Like…

Reading through the many Santa letters in this week’s Journal, I was reminded of the many Christmas wishes of my youth. Not that I ever wanted a Dora purse like Makyla Wallace, or a Wii game like Jayke Cosby, or a simiscreed III like Creed Stafford. I don’t even know what a simiscreed III is.

Joice Maddox

Joice Maddox of Bruce likes to cook when she’s in the mood, but her Christmas tradition for the last 40 years has been baking Candy Cane cookies for Christmas Eve. She loves Christmas baking because the cookies are favorites of her sons, Greg and Bryan, and grandchildren, Wiley, Walt and Abigail.
