Louise Fox was born September 12, 1932 in Big Creek, to the late Ruthie Mae (Gaines)?Milton and Clifton Suggs. She was raised by the late Emma and Clarence Harris, whom she called “mom” and “dad.” She was also loved by the late Nathan Milton and her grandmother, the late Addie Hughes. Her sister, Rosie Mae Cole and Emma Arine Pass, preceded her in death.

School Board Prepares For Potential Budget Cuts

The Calhoun County School District was hit with a $561,000 budget cut from the state last week. Monday night the board approved a “strategic survival plan” to address any future cuts.

‘City Police Earn Taser Certification

Calhoun City Police Chief Benny Langford described it as a feeling he’s never felt before and hopefully never will again. Langford and a number of his police officers, including some from Bruce and Derma, earned their certification to use tasers last Saturday.

Courthouse Budget Negotiated Within $5M Budget

Architect Rud Robison told the board of supervisors Tuesday morning he has successfully negotiated the low bid for the new county courthouse project down to the allocated funds and hopes to get the total cost lowered even more.

Monitor-Herald Announces Plans to Close

The Monitor-Herald began publication in Calhoun City in 1899. It will print its final edition the last day of 2009. Reflecting the people and history of the times, the newspaper’s 110-year life has been eventful, significant and worth celebrating.

The Mississippi Prep Sports Source rankings are produced each week by Austin Bishop and Bobby Gray. Bishop has been covering high school sports in Mississippi since 1975, while Gray is a longtime follower of prep football in North Mississippi. The ranking service is received by more than 30 media outlets and is in its second year.

Presley Gets Tough With Phone Companies
