Brittany Simmons

Brittany Samantha Simmons, age 20, of Water Valley, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2008. She was born on August 27, 1988 in Grenada, to Charles Barry and Donna Stacy Simmons of Water Valley. She was a graduate of Water Valley High School 2006, a sales associate at Wal-Mart and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Water Valley.

Virginia Arnold

Virginia Ruth Arnold, 86, of Calhoun City, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born October 20, 1922 in Calhoun County, the daughter of Ruel W. and Willie Evans Brown. She was a homemaker and member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Laderl Bollinger

Laderl Adrion Bollinger, 85, of Cordova, Tn. and formerly of Pittsboro, died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. He was born February 28, 1923 in Bruce, the son of Henry Price and Annie Eliza Black Bollinger. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for Garan, Inc., and was a member of Pittsboro First Baptist Church, VFW, American Legion and DAV. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Wayne Parker, Sr.

 Robert Wayne Parker, Sr., 76, departed this life on September 21, 2008 at his home in Belleville, Il. He was born May 25, 1932 in Big Creek.

Margaret Griffin

Margaret Lavelle Griffin, 87, of Vardaman, died Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Calhoun County Nursing Home in Calhoun City. She was born February 19, 1921 in Saltillo, the daughter of James Granville and Josephine Suggs Towery. She was retired from Kellwood and was a member of Vardaman First Baptist Church.

Random Thoughts From A Random Mind

A tray of sweet potato treats from the Sweet Shop would uplift any gathering, particularly the usual mundane meetings of the school board. VES Principal DeDee Lee provided the sweets in the teachers’ “work room” and some splendid coffee. I was glad to do my part as an appreciative guest in the “work room” as VHS Principal Porter Casey led several board members around on a tour of the school. I see the school all the time. I don’t see a tray of “sweet potato sweets” nearly enough.
